Instrumentation1991. 12 accelerometers, on 3 levels in the building. 3 accelerometers at a reference free-field site.
 
Vertical Load Carrying SystemConcrete slab floors, 2.5" and 4.5" thick, with welded metal studs, over 2" metal deck, supported by distributed steel frames.
Lateral Force Resisting SystemDuctile moment resisting steel frames in both directions. In the longitudinal direction the frames are at the perimeter; in the transverse direction the frames are at the perimeter and at two interior bays.
Foundation TypeDrilled (20" diam.), cast in place concrete friction piles, 15 to 50 feet long. Concrete grade beams and 6" thick slab on grade.
Remarks1) The building was designed and constructed in accordance with Title 24 of the California Administrative Code and the 1979 UBC. 2) There is an adjacent building on the north and east sides separated by a 4" seismic joint. 3) The building was instrumentated as part of the OSHPD/CSMIP Hospital Instrumentation Project.
